How the date is chosen
Shravana Purnima: the day Purnima lasts at least 6 ghatis (144 minutes) after sunrise, otherwise the day it begins. The rakhi is tied after Bhadra (the first half of Purnima) ends, until the pradosh.
About Raksha Bandhan
Shravana Purnima: sisters tie a rakhi on their brothers' wrists and both promise to stand by each other. Traditionally the rakhi is tied after Bhadra has ended.
Times are for New Delhi (IST). In other cities sunrise, moonrise and muhurat times differ by some minutes, and now and then the day itself differs. Festival times for your city →
